Beginner Longboards
When choosing a longboard to begin your surfing career, you might want to lean towards one on the smaller end of the spectrum. A 10′ longboard may be too overwhelming for a beginner. Just the size and weight alone of the board can be too big for a beginner. You must consider being able to travel with the board to your nearest beach location, carry the board down to the beach,  paddling the board out through the break, and if you can straddle the board while sitting out in the water, among others. Funboards and mini longboards are recommended for most beginning surfers.

Experienced Longboarders
As you hone your longboarding skills, you may decide to move up in board size. With the added length and width, the board will become more stable and allow you to nose ride. With more experience, you may decide to begin riding a performance longboard, and begin experimenting with various surfing tricks. Whatever direction you choose to take with your new longboarding hobby, there is always room for growth and new things to try.
